Stage Drama Titled "State of the Art" Performed at IMSciences, Peshawar

Centre for Learning Law and Business (CLLB) Peshawar, in collaboration with IMSciences and Directorate of Youth Affairs Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stages an original play “State of the Art” at IMSciences, Peshawar. Theme of the play is how student creatives navigate the challenges in the practice of arts in our region. “Young people have ideas to express, and our society needs to give them space (physical and mental) so they can express their ideas and realize their creative talents.” Noted by a professor. "CLLB efforts need to be appreciated for starting a theatre and arts programme which is open to students of all universities." said a university student. Theatre programme is led by a dedicated faculty member at CLLB. 40 students from the Institute of Management Sciences (IMSciences), University of Peshawar, University of Engineering and Technology (UET), National University of Modern Languages (NUML), Air University and Pakturk Maarif School have worked for 4 months to bring this production to life. "CLLB's leadership has encouraged a culture in which creativity can flourish. We need more institutions like CLLB for training and educating our next generations in the arts." said faculty leader of CLLB Arts and Theatre Programme, Wafa Farooq. "We are grateful to the Directorate of Youth Affairs for facilitating and guiding our team throughout the IMSciences show." Said writer and Director Mujtaba Hilal. “Theatre Arts and Dramatics should be a regular part of university education. This will lead to young people to produce original plays as well as adaptations.” said an attendee.

Synopsis of the play

"State of the Art" is an original play written by Mujtaba Hilal and co-writer Haji ur Rahman. The multilingual metadrama revolves around a bunch of enthusiastic young students attempting to stage a drama in their varsity against a backdrop of social and institutional barriers. The play also features a supernatural element represented by a chorus to reflect a collective consciousness. While exploring the themes of artistic and creative struggle, the play further delves into ideas about meaning, purpose, effort, hope, fragmented identities, failure and success.
