Highlights of Two-Day Symposium on "Youth Resilience and Violent Extremism Prevention: Exploring Diverse Perspectives and Local Solutions" at University of Peshawar

The symposium, held at the University of Peshawar, served as a platform for fostering dialogue and collaboration on youth resilience and violent extremism prevention.

Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Mr. Syed Fakhar Jehan Khan, graced the event as the Chief Guest. He highlighted the critical role of youth in addressing violence and extremism, emphasizing the importance of their involvement in creating sustainable solutions. Addressing the impact of social media on youth behavior, he stressed the need to build resilient young individuals equipped to confront challenges effectively and engage with key stakeholders. He also discussed various youth empowerment initiatives aimed at making a positive impact within communities.

Dr. Nauman Mujahid, Director Youth Affairs Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, delivered a compelling keynote address. He underscored the significance of youth as Pakistan’s largest demographic, comprising 62% of the population, and introduced the Three C Model as a counter-strategy to the Three N Model for addressing extremism.

Dr. Nauman Mujahid elaborated on several youth empowerment initiatives, including the globally recognized Ehsaas Naujawan Program, the Chief Minister Internship Program, and forthcoming projects such as the Foreign Scholarships Program and IT Skills & Entrepreneurship Programs. These initiatives aim to harness the potential of Pakistan’s youth, offering them opportunities to contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.

Furthermore, Dr. Nauman Mujahid announced the launch of a research study on violent extremism, building on earlier work conducted in Syria in 2022. This study will soon be implemented in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, providing localized insights and solutions to counter violent extremism effectively.

The symposium showcased collaborative efforts and innovative approaches to empower youth, foster resilience, and develop sustainable, community-driven solutions to violent extremism.
